Within the scope of the International Relations Department Seminar Series, a session titled “Türkiye’s Search for Alliances: Instead of NATO, SCO, EAEU, Turkic States Organization?” was held with Prof. Dr. Alaeddin Yalçınkaya as the speaker.
The seminar addressed academic and political debates on Türkiye’s search for alternative alliances in light of its challenges with the European Union and NATO. In this context, the causes behind alliance formation, the conditions for their success, and the criteria that should guide Türkiye’s alliance preferences were discussed.
The presentation also emphasized the importance of key principles such as human rights, democracy, and social justice within existing frameworks like NATO and the European Union, arguing for the preservation of current alliances alongside efforts to resolve existing issues.
Furthermore, the necessity of maintaining relations with other countries—particularly Russia and China—on the basis of equality and reciprocity was highlighted. The discussion also touched upon Türkiye’s increasing energy dependency and the economic impact of trade imbalances with China.
The seminar provided a productive platform for discussion with the participation of academics and graduate students.
