Announced in 2019, the Green Deal stands out as a profound policy shift aimed at achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, in line with the European Union’s sustainable development goals. Within this framework, investments in renewable energy have generated multifaceted and profound impacts on trade relations. Primarily, such investments contribute to the diversification of trade by reducing dependence on energy imports and transforming the structure of energy trade. The renewable energy sector, driven by growing demand for environmentally friendly products, expands opportunities for "green trade" and strengthens commercial ties among countries. Global policies aimed at reducing carbon footprints impose restrictions on the trade of carbon-intensive products, while simultaneously creating new export markets for countries investing in renewable energy technologies. In this context, increasing investments in renewable energy sources, reducing dependence on fossil fuels, and implementing decarbonization strategies in the energy sector have triggered significant restructuring in trade relations between EU member states and third countries. The objective of this study is to examine the economic and commercial impacts of the EU’s investments in renewable energy under the Green Deal on both member states and global trade partners. In this regard, the study aims to assess the role of factors such as energy security, trade balance, and carbon regulations in shaping the EU’s trade relations.
