As part of the International Relations Seminar Series, a seminar titled “Turkey’s Internal Security Policies in the 1930-1960 Period” was held with the participation of Assist. Prof. Muhammed Alkış as the guest speaker.
The seminar focused on the transformation of Türkiye’s security perception and internal security policies following the establishment of the Republic. The presentation examined how the founding philosophy of the Republic shaped the state’s approach toward social structures and security policies.
Focusing on the 1930-1960 period, the seminar discussed internal security policies developed within the framework of secularization, nation-building, and the preservation of state integrity. In this context, policies toward religious movements, ethnic nationalist uprisings, and, periodically, the perceived threat of communism were analyzed within their historical setting.
The speaker also addressed the methodology of the study, emphasizing the use of primary sources, including the Republican Archives, Police Archives, and the minutes of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye (TBMM). The event concluded with a Q&A session attended by students and academics.
