Article Co-Authored by Our Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Arzu Al Published in Energy Engineering

An article entitled “The Energy–Development Nexus in the Trump Era,” co-authored by our faculty member Prof. Dr. Arzu Al and Dr. Mustafa Latif Emek, has been published in Energy Engineering. The article was published online on September 30, 2026, as part of the special issue Selected Papers from the 2025 World Energy Conference.

The study examines U.S. energy policies during Donald Trump’s first presidential term (2017–2021) through the framework of “energy dominance” and the energy–development–climate nexus. It focuses on policies including the withdrawal from the Paris Agreement, the relaxation of environmental regulations, and the promotion of fossil fuel production, assessing their implications for economic development, energy transition, and climate governance.

The article concludes that Trump-era policies delayed rather than fundamentally reversed the U.S. energy transition while contributing to regulatory uncertainty, carbon lock-in risks, and tensions with the international climate regime. The study also discusses the implications of these findings for energy-import-dependent developing economies such as Türkiye. We congratulate the authors and wish them continued success in their academic work.
